About this place

Every evening along Pokhara's Lakeside strip, sekuwa stalls fire up their charcoal grills and the air fills with smoky, spiced aromas. Sekuwa is Nepal's answer to kebab — chunks of marinated meat (chicken, buff, pork, or mutton) skewered and grilled over open flame. The marinade typically includes ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, chili, and mustard oil. The best stalls serve it with chiura (beaten rice), fresh onion rings, and a scorching hot tomato chutney. Several stalls compete along the main Lakeside road — look for the ones with the longest queues of Nepali customers (not tourists). Budget Rs. 200-400 for a full plate with beaten rice and drinks. The experience peaks after 6pm when the grills are hottest and the lake reflects the sunset. Pair with a cold Gorkha beer from the shop next door.
