This family-run momo stall in Masangalli (near Asan) has been making momos for over five decades — longer than most Kathmandu restaurants have existed. Narayan Dai (Uncle Narayan) started with a small cart, and while the operation has grown, the recipe hasn't changed. The buff momos are smaller than average but packed with intense flavor — the meat-to-wrapper ratio is generous and the jhol (soup) they serve alongside is rich with Szechuan pepper and tomato. The tiny shop seats maybe 15 people on wooden benches. Expect to wait 10-15 minutes during lunch. A plate costs around Rs. 120-150. The experience is as much about the atmosphere — the steam, the chatter, the generations of regulars — as the food. Cash only. Open 10am-7pm, closed Saturdays.
