Hidden deep in the rhododendron forests of Terhathum district in eastern Nepal, Hyatung is believed to be Nepal's tallest waterfall at 365 meters — a thundering column of white water plunging off a cliff into a misty gorge below. Getting here requires a trek through rice terraces, cardamom fields, and dense forest, with no marked trails — you'll need a local guide from Myanglung. The waterfall is best visited during or just after monsoon (July-September) when the volume is spectacular, though the trail is slippery. In spring (March-April), the surrounding forest erupts with blooming rhododendrons in red, pink, and white. There are no lodges — bring a tent or arrange a homestay in the nearest village. This is genuine off-the-grid Nepal, untouched by tourism.
