What is the actual process for getting a driving license now?

Ask NepalOnNepal·12 months ago

I have heard the process has changed recently and there is an online booking system now. Can someone walk me through the current steps? I have a two-wheeler learner permit that expired. Do I need to start from scratch or can I renew it? Also, which trial center is the least crowded? I have heard Ekantakuna is a nightmare.

The online system is at dotm.gov.np. Book your written exam slot there. You need citizenship certificate, medical report from a government hospital, and passport photos. Written exam is multiple choice, pretty straightforward if you study the book.

If your learner permit expired, you need to start fresh unfortunately. For trial centers — Thulo Bharyang is less crowded than Ekantakuna. The instructors are more patient there. Go on a weekday if possible.

Budget 3-4 months for the whole process. Wait times between written exam and trial can be long. Many people fail trial on first attempt — the figure 8 course is tricky on the old bikes they provide. Do not feel bad about it.
