Planning a trip to Pokhara in July. I know it is monsoon season but flights are much cheaper and I have time off work. Has anyone been during the rains? Specifically wondering about: - Can you still see the mountains at all? - Are the lakes and waterfalls better during monsoon? - Any activities that are actually improved by the rain? - Road conditions from Kathmandu?
Went in August last year. Mountains are visible early morning before clouds roll in. The waterfalls are spectacular during monsoon — Davis Falls was insane. The lake with mist is beautiful. Just bring good rain gear and waterproof bags for your electronics.
Road from Kathmandu can be sketchy during heavy monsoon. Landslides happen. I would recommend flying if budget allows. Fewer tourists in monsoon means cheaper hotels and you get Lakeside almost to yourself. Paragliding still operates on clear mornings.
The green during monsoon is unbelievable. Everything looks like an HD wallpaper. Just bring mosquito repellent and quick-dry clothes. Also the boat ride on Phewa Lake in light rain is honestly magical.
